Mt. Zion – Dorothy I. Martin, 86, of Champaign, formerly of Mt. Zion, passed away at 11:35 a.m., Saturday September 25, 2010 in Canterbury Ridge Assisted Living, Urbana, IL.
A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, 105 W. Main Street, Mt. Zion, IL with Rev. Joel Stevenor officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Dorothy was born November 18, 1923 in Decatur, the daughter of Hiram and Lenora (Bradley) Crain. She was a 1942 graduate of Mt. Zion High School and went on to graduate from Brown’s Business College. Dorothy married Luther Wayne “Red” Martin on May 31, 1945. She had worked as the secretary to the Director of Nursing for Mercy Hospital. She enjoyed along with her husband, traveling to many destinations. They together also are passionate Illini fans having enjoyed many University of Illinois football and basketball games through out the years.
Surviving is her husband: Luther Wayne “Red” Martin of Champaign, IL sister: Virginia Ryan of Decatur; several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews also survive.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her family and all of her friends.
